BBC EARTH. THE REAL HAPPINESS PROJECT.
Nature makes us feel better — science says so. Partnering with UC Berkeley, we found that even short bursts of natural history content can lift mood and reduce stress. To share that insight, I led BBC Earth’s first influencer campaign, featuring real stories from people deeply connected to the wild: the Bloom family and their rescued magpie, Penguin; Nike, a solo sailor circumnavigating the globe; and Kyle Maynard, who’s climbed mountains without prosthetics. Their stories reminded audiences just how good nature can make us feel.

“An understanding of the natural world and what’s in it is a source of not only a great curiosity but great fulfilment.”
— David Attenborough

Complementing the influencer narratives, we introduced the Happybot on Facebook Messenger—a digital companion delivering personalised moments of natural wonder, curated from BBC Earth's vast archives. This blend of scientific research, genuine storytelling, and innovative digital engagement positioned the Real Happiness Project as a compelling call to reconnect with the natural world.
